Letter : Edinburgh, to J.M. Greenhow, before 1841.

The collection comprises an undated letter sent by Ritchie along with three pictures "for the ensuing exhibition if deemed worthy." It was sent from Edinburgh to Secretary J.M. Greenhow, and includes the title and the price of each painting, which correspond to the text on the cards attached to the back of each picture. Also included is the card detached from painting no. 1, entitled Young Lochinvar. Below the title, the artist transcribed six verses from Walter Scott's poem Marmion, Canto Fifth, XII, entitled Lochinvar.
